The "Cradle of Humanity" site, which was included in the World Heritage List in 1999, is located in a quiet valley in the west of Johannesburg, about an hour's drive from the west of Johannesburg. The fossils of human ancestors found here account for about half of the total number in the world, providing important clues for exploring the origin of human beings. "The Cradle of Humanity" is the general term for a series of archaeological sites, including the Maropeng Visitor Center and the most famous Steckfontein Cave. In the central hall, visitors can start a journey in time and space, go back to the moment when the universe was born, and then formally enter the exhibition hall.
Tourists can also visit the Steckfontein Cave, where in 1947, Dr. Robert Bloom found the adult skull of Australopithecus africanus, called "Mrs. Price". This archaeological discovery shocked the world. Below the main body of the fossil cave is a vast group of underground caves. These caves are famous all over the world for their natural underground lakes and various stalactites and stalagmites. You can slowly savor this masterpiece of nature in the hall leading to the underground lake.
